Crossing over
The us and them feeling is palatable, isn’t it dear reader? I don’t want it to be so, it just so happens that this is the human condition. We choose sides, naturally, and the chasm between threatens to swallow us whole when we consider the opposing point of view. For me, crossing over to the secular world causes trauma to my ears and heart, because it is the Cross that is cursed.
Each of us must make a decision
I see why standing alone is so terrifying. It means the end of relationship; it means I might get mocked and ostracized; it means that I have decided that only Gods opinion of me matters and this one concept taken solo means that ultimately, I will be reduced and rejected by many, privately and publicly. The world is a stage and each must play his part: the tension is, who are we performing for, as we take centre stage in our own lives? Each of us must make a decision: do we perform and please everyone because we want them to like us and we are afraid of rejection, or do we speak and live the Truth, and by this I mean committing in company, to the knowledge that Christ is King, that we belong to him, and that there is no alternate reality that suffices or satisfies.
Denying Truth
Shying away from truth is offensive, isn’t it? If someone lied about you, denied you when you were out of ear shot, maligned and mocked you, how would you feel when facing that person, with this knowledge of their betrayal of who you really are? This is exactly what people who love Jesus do when they reject him in front of their non believing friends, family, neighbours and co-workers. The difference between you and Jesus is he is omnipresent. While you can only be in one place at one time, he is everywhere all of the time and he can see and hear what is being said about him in your presence; he knows that you are just like Peter, denying his deity out of fear for your own skin and perceived position in the world. Being persecuted is built into being a Christian, it is the cross we bare for the cross Jesus was crucified on. Denying this, denying him… well dear reader, I have no words: it is a heart heavy matter.
December 25th approaches
Turn to him and away from fear |
It is December 2, 2018. Santa or Christ? Society or Saviour? You or the King of Kings? Immanuel, God is with us… and he sees, knows, all. Which side do you choose, secular or Sovereign? It is, as always, and for as long as you take breath on this earth, up to you to choose.
Which will it be?
