“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins” (Matthew 6:14-15).
Sin, an old fashioned word
Sin is a swear word in our society. Sin is an old fashioned word that has been rejected in modern day usage because it is a direct link to God and God knows, rejection of him is rampant and casual. God is a maybe, a sometimes, a discovery or even a possibility amongst many other equally valuable considerations in a world of choices. Why choose one god and impose a limit on ourselves when we can have “it” all? To accept one god is to exclude all the others and this does not fit our schema, our inclination to inclusion. Is your ire rising as you read dear reader? Are you readying yourself for a fight, defending the many against this one writer, one who dares to challenge the current status quo of anything goes? Do we go deeper into this, you and I, choosing our corners and our weapons to wage war?
Heavenly Forgiveness
Look again, above. For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Imagine this dear one, forgiveness. What do you need forgiving for? Not what do you need to forgive, what do YOU need forgiveness for? Look into your own heart, your own bruised and battered soul. Forgiveness starts with the Father and it starts there because when we hurt one another, we wound him, we sin against his love for us. His plan is for us to love one another and when this falls by the wayside, it is to him we must answer, and than to one another.
Grace and mercy
I forgive men who have sinned against me because I have experienced Gods grace, his mercy in the face of my own sins. I have gone before my Father and wept in gratitude for the love he freely gives because he has always loved me, has always loved you, even when we have not been lovable. He loves you dear reader, he loves you…go before him, ask him to forgive you and feel his outpouring of mercy and you too, will find it in your heart to forgive as he forgives, and to love as he loves.
